Lacuna

Inspired by shavasana, the “corpse pose” that traditionally ends yoga practice, this piece invites viewers to lie down for a moment of contemplation. Five small speakers placed encircling the head create an immersive and intimate experience. The speakers play a piece created using data about civilizations growth over human existence, creating an atmosphere that ebbs and flows as empires are created and destroyed. The listener is thus given a chance to reflect on the impermanence but constant renewal of human endeavor.

On view at Emerson Dorsch Gallery in Miami, from December 1st to December 8th.
